Gods and Generals: The Paintings of Mort Kunstler

Gods and Generals: The Paintings of Mort Kunstler

$4.95

The year prior to the battle of Gettysburg was the high-water mark for the Confederacy; single-minded, its superior officers were unified under the command of General Robert E. Lee. GODS AND GENERALS: THE PAINTINGS OF MORT KUNSTLER focuses on the strategic collaboration between Lee and Thomas Stonewall Jackson in the battles leading up to July 1863: Second Bull Run (or Manassas), Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. The roots of a tradition of undying valor and constancy were founded here, and they have been a vibrant heritage for subsequent generations. This story, based on the best-selling novel by Jeff Shaara (Gods and Generals), also involves Union officers Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and Winfield Scott Hancock, one a professor of religion from Bowdoin College, and the other a graduate of West Point. The dramatic text and pictures bring to life this crucial time as the Confederacy dominated the battlefields with their skillful speed and flexibility.

What do paintings signify in an age of photographs? How do photographs modify the visual language of paintings? Richard Misrach’s PICTURES OF PAINTINGS showcases photographs of select museum masterpieces. Working primarily in the art museums of the American West, along with The Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Misrach photographed details of paintings to reexamine them, not so much as a guide to the artist’s style or technique, but as a means of understanding a lexicon of cultural values, among them race, gender, religion, and power. By collapsing the barriers between the traditional practice of documentation and the recent strategies of appropriation art, these photographs raise important questions regarding representation itself. This publication marks a major addition to the oeuvre of Richard Misrach.

In the 1990s, a new niche market emerged in the United States: gay and lesbian consumers were targeted by both mainstream and gay and lesbian producers. "Selling Out" asks: What is the relationship between this niche market and the social movement that works for gay and lesbian rights? Locating the niche market and social movement in the context of the rise of consumer culture and pictorial advertising and the rise of identity-based social movements over the course of the 20th century, Alexandra Chasin examines specific sites of intersection between them: the gay and lesbian press, advertising, boycotting, and the mechanisms of funding the movement.

Growing revenue in this evolved economy is a challenge. Products are hard to describe and value is difficult to explain. Traditional sales techniques are ineffective. Buyers are more sophisticated, selling cycles are longer and customers have increasingly complex buying processes. With CEOs, sales management and professional sales executives in mind, Donal Daly and Paul O’Dea have created the SELECT SELLING methodology to address this challenge. Between them, they have started six successful companies. In 40 years’ combined experience, spanning five continents, they have sold complex products, managed and trained sales teams, and helped companies grow revenue through the definition and implementation of organizational process – from strategic market positioning to sales execution. Using SELECT SELLING, learn how to: select the right customers to pursue; become an expert in your customer’s business; guide the sale with advanced questioning techniques; increase your sales conversion rate; and know which deals you can win. The SELECT SELLING methodology has been designed to equip anyone selling high value, complex products to large corporations with a defined and rigorous process that can be moulded to an individual salesperson’s style but which also takes much of the uncertainty out of the sales process. It combines high-level, strategic marketing principles to draw the map, with focused tactics to complete each journey, addressing the practical stops along the way. SELECT SELLING will be of particular value to those in the high technology industry. It will help them enhance their productivity, hit their targets more consistently, and increase revenue. Selling Happiness

Selling Happiness

$59.02

From the early twentieth century until the Communist takeover in 1949, Shanghai commercial artists created thousands of colorful posters and black and white advertisements that formed an essential part of modern life in the city. This visually appealing and richly illustrated work describes the origin and evolution of modern commercial art in China, focusing on colorful advertisement calendar posters that featured distinctive feminine images. It makes clear how essential commercial art and its institutional backing were to the development of modern art and even modern society in China over the past century. Selling Happiness discusses not only advertising art but also the production and marketing of the calendar poster. These posters, like other advertisements, were rendered in a Western realistic technique and were wildly and widely popular. Ordinary people throughout China often acquired them to decorate their homes. Laing outlines how the Chinese commercial artist, who rarely attended formal Western art classes, gained skills in Western representational art. In the final chapter of the book, she explains how the styles developed by the commercial poster artists during the 1920s and 1930s became the basis for certain types of propaganda art under the Chinese Communists in the 1950s and 1960s.

Direct Selling

Direct Selling

$4.24

Direct Selling examines all the key criteria in running a successful and profitable direct selling business and the opportunities that exist for those with an urge to have a business of their own. Berry explains party plan selling and the reasons for the most recent growth in network marketing. Throughout the world, direct selling is a fast growing channel of retail distribution. In Britain the direct selling of consumer goods now exceeds 1 billion a year – rivalling that of direct marketing. The recent success of direct selling businesses is based on the competitive edge it offers to manufacturers and the opportunities it presents to those with an urge to have a small business of their own. At the same time, this distribution channel has remained widely misunderstood and, sometimes, justly criticised for the hyped-up earnings claims of some of those involved as direct sellers. Richard Berry puts this industry in perspective in relation to retail distribution as a whole. He explains what products can be direct sold, and what cannot, and how to select the most appropriate methods of organising, training and motivating a sales force. The book is illustrated with many case studies involving both successful and unsuccessful direct selling businesses and marketing techniques. In this extensively researched book, the author also deals comprehensively with both the legal and consumer protection aspects of running a direct selling business. Covers all types of direct selling organization and direct selling methods Written by someone with past experience of running a direct selling business who is currently Director of the Direct Selling Association Covers, in detail, every aspect of the direct selling of consumer goods

Selling the Sixties

Was it a non-stop psychedelic party or was there more to pirate radio in the sixties than hedonism and hip radicalism? From Kenny Everett’s sacking to John Peel’s legendary Perfumed Garden’ show, to the influence of the multi-national ad agencies, and the eventual assimilationof aspects of unofficial pop radio into Radio One, Selling the Sixties examines the boom of private broadcasting in Britain. Using two contrasting models of pop piracy, Radios Caroline and London, Robert Chapman sets pirate radio in its social and cultural context. In doing so he challenges the myths surrounding its maverick Kings Road’ image, separating populist consumerism from the economic and political machinations which were the flipside of the pirate phenomenon. Selling the Sixties includes previously unseen evidence from the pirates’ archives, revealing interviews and an unrivalled selection of rare audio materials.

'One Love' Silk Screen Art Print

‘One Love’ Silk Screen Art Print

$35

Inspired by the lyrics of Bob Marley, and a honeymoon in Jamaica, this design encapsulates my experience of the rich reggae culture. It is printed in a rich red ink to represent love. This print makes an ideal valentines gift, engagement gift or moving in gift for any happy couple in love, but is particularly special to any fan of Jamaica and/or reggae and Bob Marley. The design was generated on computer using a range of icons, fonts and shapes all with a similar hand carved theme. I clearly remember locals hand carving wood on the street and selling them as gifts. It is a similar style to marks made using woodblock print techniques. This is a one colour silk screen print onto a quality Somerset paper, and part of a first edition of only 25. Each print is signed and numbered. A further edition may be printed in 2012. Sold mounted with a white mount. Finished mounted size is approximately 30 x 30cm. Visible print area is 15.5 x 15.5cm. This is unframed with the option to have framed if you wish. Framed size is 33.7cm x 33.7cm. The frame width is 2.5cm. The frame is distressed white and should suit any rustic, modern or vintage inspired kitchen. It is posted flat and well packaged.
